Arval employee speaks out on road safety
Tracey Young, Fleet & Road Safety Manager at Arval, has presented to businesses in Ireland at the Driving for Better Business Seminar, a national forum to promote best practise and road safety within the business community. She spoke with passion about the benefits of delivering road safety plans and how at Arval, through securing commitment from the top of the organisation, cultural change had been achieved.
The event came as recognition that the business community in North Antrim, Northern Ireland, needed information and advice on work-related road safety. Sam Knox, Chairman of Ballymoney Road Safety Committee, organised the “Driving for Better Business” Seminar. He commented that “Tracey was invited the deliver the seminar’s keynote address in recognition of her achievements and expertise in this field.”
Tracey used her experience of raising the profile of road safety within Arval to present a case study to the sixty-five delegates attending the event. It is hoped that Tracey’s story will inspire the business community to follow Arval’s example.
Holding the Driving for Better Business “Business Champion” status allows Arval, one of the UK’s leading business car specialists, to act as an exemplar organisation, delivering and supporting road safety best practice for customers. As a consequence Arval works through various networks and associations to deliver road safety awareness to their fellow businessmen and women.
The Driving for Better Business campaign is designed to raise awareness of the importance of work-related road safety in the business community and public sector by using advocates drawn from these communities to promote the business benefits of managing it effectively.
Tracey comments:
“Road safety is crucial in terms of staff wellbeing, company reputation, cost management and meeting legal obligations. As well as keeping employees and other road users safe, improving road safety performance provides tangible benefits to the business, especially important in the current economic climate.”
She adds, “As a ‘Driving for Better Business’ Champion we want to continue sharing and implementing best practice as well as developing new initiatives to ensure that improving road safety remains at the top of the business agenda.”
Arval is well known within its industry and the wider business community for a commitment to road safety. This commitment saw Arval win a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award last year as well as a BRAKE road safety award. Arval is also one of a select group of businesses to have signed up to the EU road safety charter.
