Stress is a major distraction in its own right but any of the causes listed above can be a contributing factor in a crash. Volkswagen has been hailed at as a “trailblazer” as it announces all its UK vans will now come with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) as standard. Studies by Thatcham Research found that AEB reduces rear-end shunts by 38% and third-party insurance claims by 45%.
