Driving for Work Policy Updates

Ensure you have an up to date Driving for Work Policy in place.

Check that you have covered any of the updates below that are relevant to your organisation in the wording of your policies.

The next step is to share any changes to your policies with your drivers.

2025 Updates

14th July 2025

From 14 July 2025, some changes will take effect in the IVA inspection manual for light goods vehicles (N1) submitted for Individual Vehicle Approval.

Changes have been made to a number of sections, including:

  • Steering Effort (section 05)
  • Brake systems (section 09A)
  • Speedometer and reverse gear (section 17)
  • Seat belt anchorages (section 19)
  • Installation of lights (section 20)

These changes are explained in the ’release notes’ at the beginning of the manual and in the ‘Record of revision’ page for each section.

Updated training course requirements of TfL Contractual Requirements audit standards.

This update includes the standards that vehicle operators need to meet to join the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) earned recognition scheme.

These documents are for vehicle operators and DVSA earned recognition auditors. The documents show:

  • the standards you need to meet
  • how you’ll be assessed
  • the evidence you’ll need

Applies to England, Scotland and Wales.

Finding a reliable workshop where you have confidence in what you’re buying, just got easier with the launch of the industry’s Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS).

After successful trials in 2024, the scheme is now live.

It’s here to help raise the bar for commercial vehicle maintenance, by rating workshops on staff skills and facilities.

This way, operators can easily find skilled maintenance providers to keep their vehicles safe to drive – and hopefully make more informed choices on finding a provider that suits their needs.

section 3. Daily walkaround checks, added information on additional checks for vehicles used in arduous conditions.

section 5. Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS), added information on scheme objectives.

section 5.3. Braking performance assessment, clarified requirements – section 5.4. EBPMS parking brake assessment, updated guidance in this section.
