Road safety partner toolkit for road safety professionals
Join us for this masterclass with Simon Turner, Engagement Manager for Driving for Better Business.
With twenty years’ experience in the world of work-related road safety he’ll explain the impact business drivers could be having on your local casualty statistics and provide ideas and resources to help you engage with businesses in your area to support them in reducing work-related road risk.
About this course:

In this free-to-access masterclass, Simon Turner introduces the new Local Road Safety Partner Toolkit from Driving for Better Business – a free programme from National Highways.
This toolkit has been designed to help local road safety professionals engage with local businesses about work-related road risk, supporting them to manage their drivers more effectively, with free resources to help them improve road safety.
It’s generally recognised that at least a third of all collisions, where someone was killed or seriously injured, involve at least one person who was driving for work at the time. Where there are casualties, the majority are usually other, more vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Government data shows that van drivers are responsible for more road deaths per mile travelled than any other type of road user – which means that people who drive for work could be having a significant impact on your local road casualty statistics.

To access the course you’ll need to setup a free account on the Vision Zero Community, so that your progress through the masterclass can be saved, allowing you to complete it in stages if you wish.
In around 45 minutes, we’ll help you understand the different aspects of work-related road risk, what employers’ responsibilities are, how the Driving for Better Business programme can help you locally, and what resources are available, both to help you engage with your local businesses, and to help them improve road safety.
Why should you watch this masterclass?
Driving for work is recognised as one of the most dangerous activities that most employees do.
Employers that use vehicles such as vans, trucks and company cars have a statutory duty under health and safety legislation to ensure that they manage the risks effectively, to protect both their own staff and other road users.
The Driving for Better Business programme is offering this Road Safety Partner Toolkit to help you engage with your local businesses, and to help them improve road safety.
Importantly, we’ve identified five activities your partnership can start right away, complete with downloadable resources.

Feedback for this masterclass:
I’ve always thought Driving for Better Business (DFBB) was a great initiative with some brilliant resources. This was another well presented masterclass that I recommend to anyone who engages with businesses and business ETP. I shall reignite some of our business interest over the next few months. I especially liked the idea of including this in the procurement process, and will seek to establish if we include that in any of ours.
Enjoyed hearing more about Driving for Better Business (DfBB), and great to see discussions from a previous planning meeting about this masterclass were taken into account. It was pitched really well to show what we could do at a local level.
Great session! Like how it was broken down into different check list items – makes it really easy to refer back to later on.
